Boys and Girls Club

Boys and Girls Club was just a Dream

One of my committments to the citizens of Little Falls during my first campaign was to help our youth.  I started that process early in my first year as Mayor.  I had a friend, well actualy, it was more then a friend, it was my daughter-in-laws father. So, when he came in the door with this idea, I listened.  As a child he had attended the Boys and Girls Club after school.  It had a major impact on his life and he always wanted to start a Boys and Girls Club in Little Falls. I tried encouraging him to start it and I would help, but it was to be the other way around.  We contacted the National Boys and Girls Club who then put us in contact with the Minneosta Boys and Girls Club.  I invited the Executive Director to Little Falls for a meeting , we talked and decided to have a community meeting that he would come back for and see what the residents thought. The first meeting drew about 20-25 people, many showed an interest, but nobody wanted to take the lead.  For a year I meet with this very dedicated group of people and we made plans.  It wasn't long before more dedicated people jumped on board and today we have a very active and successful Boys and Girls Club.   One mans dream became a reality because he took that first step!
